LEGO set 40755: Star Wars Imperial Dropship vs. Rebel Scout Speeder
383 parts
AUD 64.99
This LEGO Star Wars set was actually a better outcome than I expected, as I was anticipating each of the two vehicles to be slightly smaller and simpler in design.
The highlights of the set were the exclusive QT-KT droid, and that half the minifigure stormtroopers/rebels that are included are female, a point of difference to past Star Wars sets I believe, and it could possibly be due to the QT-KT droid figure and its origins (search up that story for yourself if you like) though it is not unique to this set from what I can tell. I like variety in my minifigures so the fact that each one was different (even if it is just the head piece) was a nice inclusion.
It is a fun little playset and my son would have been happy if that was that… but I had downloaded instructions for alternate builds from rebrickable.com and both my son and I were looking forward to what they would ultimately look like.
Alternate build #1: two canons and one ship from 40755

I liked the shape of the ship, but constructing it was quite flimsy, I had to continually put the base back together. And the engines were floppy which took away from the finished effect. I also found the rear engines couldn't be put together as instructions stated… the instructions picture showed what seemed to be an overlap of parts that was impossible (and therefore I couldn't fit all the pieces on the bar piece).
My son still thought it looked ok though, plus the cannons were cool additions to the ship, and it was good to have free instructions to try for the set.
Alternate build #2: 40755 AAC-1 Speeder tank - Alternate Build
312 parts
EUR 1.60 for instructions
I liked this set, a few fragile parts, but it came together quite nicely in the end using the parts that were available to the designer... with only one negative point, the hole in the floor of the cockpit (the designer replied to my comment on this and said a version without the hole was originally designed, “but the figurine became difficult to retrieve easily, and got stuck. So I made this version where the figure comes out more easily with a hole”. So perhaps if this is an issue for you you can ask the designer about the other version.
The guns were a little wobbly too (and the most fragile part) but not so bad as it was good that they were designed to swivel around. I chose this build because it looked most like a speeder tank when I searched up an image, and was larger than another speeder in the alternate build options. It used the spare parts from the original set too, so keep these on hand if you decide to build this one for yourself.
Alternate build #2: 40755 Alternative build: Imperial patrol gunship
by aranobilis98
319 parts
USD 3.00 for instructions
I left this alternate build until last as I thought it would be the one we would leave as it was... and I’m glad I did!
I chose this over the another gunship design as it looked more like the images I saw of a gunship, and it had doors on the sides which made it feel more complete.
A few fragile moments during construction (roof to base connection) and some fragile bits of the completed build, but I learnt where to hold it for easy and safe manoeuvring (the top, middle, 'rail' parts).
The cockpit open and the driver’s seat can be disconnected, there are side doors towards the rear too with enough room for two stormtroopers to stand inside.
Well done aranobilis98 for the pieces you had to work with, I'd recommend this design to anyone searching for an alternate build for set 40755!

This set is a lot of fun and the speeder tank alternate builds too looks like fun project with my kiddos!
I like the variation in the figs head as well, though my kids like swapping them for blanket heads and putting the unique one on figs of their own creation.
Great review and tips! Thank you!
