A Look At BrickBuilt Sydney 2026

This year's visit to BrickBuilt was a little more special for me, as not only did I get to meet up with Brick News' director Frase, but my son's MOC was accepted into a junior build program.

I took photos and grabbed some video as well, which I will share with you seeing many of you probably weren't able to attend.

My Son had a great day, with his own skate park creation on display, and Lego Masters contestants talking with all the young builders. They had extra activities for the select group of junior builders too, with a search for letters spread amongst the displays throughout the event hall, and a speed build game and a Lego set prize for each of them.

For my wife, she felt that there wasn't enough feminine or cute/fun builds, though she did like the large golden dragon, the Hobbit & LOTR creations, and the huge medieval landscape that a lot of members contributed to. Her favourite was the Avatar build, which was quite tall and had multiple scenes happening around the display.

Both my wife and I agree that the activities they had for the junior build program were amazing, and we love the idea of getting the kids building their own designs.

I was quite impressed with a number of young SydLUG members, who were as young as those participating in the junior build program; these builders may not have as much experience from years of building, but they could match it with many of the older generation with what they had at the show.

I spent more time wandering around the displays than last year I think, part of that was helping my son find the alphabet letters he was looking for... like a hide and seek game, and a chance for the budding creators to meet the builders of a number of MOCs. I felt that perhaps the event wasn't quite as impressive as the previous year, but I think part of that was because last year was my first year attending BrickBuilt so everything was awesome, though one of the creations was huge last year. This year there was still plenty of impressive MOCs though, and when you stop to look at displays that may not immediately catch your eye, you always find some thing interesting or you witness some great building techniques.

The start of my video showcases a Willy Wonka build that includes both movement and sound to tell the story. It think it won the best display award or something, the designer Ben Starr always seems to bring his builds to life so well!

I found so many great creations, like the huge airforce base with the large plane (at first it didn't seem to be something that I might enjoy so much, but the more I looked at it the more I loved it), or the Predator Vs Alien display by Henry Pinto (Lego Masters Australia winner, and a friendly guy). The Cat in the Hat, and the ibis/bin-chicken builds were both fun displays that would have attracted the kids to them, and there were a number of displays that had a train running around or through the build which were also fun scenes. There were a lot of cars and trucks, as well as many Star Wars scenes and medieval themed builds, plus some monsters or beasts... these are why my wife considered the event as having a very manly feel about it. The beasts were very cool though, and quite creative with brilliant techniques used to put them together and have them look so great.

Finally, they did have a minifigure swap station again (sponsored by Lego stores) and there was a Saturday night BrickBuilt after Dark experience. Fraser attended the night session with the displays lit up, and that was meant to be a very good experience (I haven't had the pleasure of attending that part of the event myself). Frase said one of his favourite lit up builds was the godzilla; it was a nice build even without the lighting, but it brought another level to it even in the daylight.

Always worth a visit, so if you haven't been able to get to a exhibit of any sort by a Lego User Group, I recommend finding one near you. BrickBuilt is a great one to get to as it pulls members from all over Australia to show their builds.
