About a month ago, on April 15, I got to meet up with Brick News founder and director Fraser Barr.
We met up at the world's largest LEGO certified store and check out what they had to offer. I had been there before, but it was nice to go again and see new sets on display. Talking with the staff, who were quite friendly and helpful, Frase found out that they use the pick-a-brick wall to add to the scenery surrounding the displayed LEGO sets. As they have to work with what is on offer from that wall, there is some interesting techniques and part usage to create the scene around the retail sets. One of my wish-list sets, Jabba's Sail Barge, didn't have any additional pick-a-brick scenery added... but it didn't need it to draw my attention. The Lord of the Rings sets, did look good on display together with the added bricks extending the various scenes
The permanent LEGO displays/sculptures were awesome, especially the huge Harbour Bridge displayed above the entry, with a number of them interactive for kids. In fact there were a few various hands-on elements to the store, though my son and I spent a good chunk of our time there with the 'build your own minifigure factory' after our time with Frase. My son and I took home some minifigures, and also the Ambush on Mandalore Battle Pack 75373 set to review (thanks Brick News!)
It was worth taking the morning off work to travel into the city for an outing with my son during his school holidays, and to meet Frase in person!!
