In this article, we're going to cover all the details surrounding our May 2023 build competition - including the rules, how it works, the prize and helpful suggestions! Whether you plan to submit your own entry or just want to get involved in the vote and help reward the person who you think deserves to win, you'll find everything you need to know below.
The Prize
Alright, let's get this out of the way. In this month's build competition there will only be one winner. The most-voted build winner will receive one LEGO 75353 Star Wars: Endor Speeder Chase, valued at $130 AUD.

How It Works
Entries can be submitted in the Builder Club beginning May 13th and will close on the 26th of May. The requirement for an entry is to submit 1-3 photos of a custom Star Wars-themed cantina. It can be based off an existing cantina seen in the films/movies, but must not be an existing set (the creation must be entirely yours).
Voting will begin on the 27th of May, and sometime during the 28th of May the winner will be declared. Entry and voting can only be participated in by users with an active Brick News subscription. The community of subscribers will be entirely responsible for voting the winner. In the event of a tie, the Brick News director Frase will vote and break the tie. Otherwise, Brick News will have no involvement in voting for the winner.
The winner will receive a special website badge for their profile to show that they won a build competition, and will be contacted via phone or email to discuss details on shipping the prize.
Rules
All participants in the May 2023 build competition must be subscribed to Brick News in order to submit an entry and/or participate in voting for the winner.
Members of a country outside of Australia are allowed to participate as long as the laws and regulations of the jurisdiction they reside in also allow them to enter.
Each participant can enter once, but can edit or resubmit their entry multiple times until the entry period closes. An entry is 1-3 photos of a custom built Star Wars-themed cantina using LEGO bricks.
Entrants will be disqualified if they plagiarise other builds or incorporate too much of an existing LEGO set into their work. The build should be entirely their own and be a unique entry.
The winning build will be voted on by the community. Each Brick News subscriber will be able to vote on one set.
Entrants to the competition agree that their name may be published for a minimum of 30 days on www.BrickNews.com.au if they win the competition.
The entry period is the 13th of May to the 26th of May. Entries outside of these dates or not eligible.
Tips and Ideas
Now that we've cleared up the prize, how the competition works and listing the rules out, lets get into the fun stuff!
As the build competition centers around building a Star Wars-themed cantina out of LEGO bricks, we're going to provide some helpful tips and inspiration for you to use in your builds.
First off, perhaps one of the best photos to look at when looking for inspiration - the official LEGO Mos Eisley Cantina!

Of course, we don't expect you to make a custom cantina as big as this one, but it's certainly a good example to look at for inspiration. Below we've also posted a few photos from other popular cantinas in the Star Wars universe.

With a few images for inspiration, now it comes time to discuss pieces and parts you can use in your cantina.

LEGO mugs, wine glasses, and cups are popular and easily attainable pieces that can make a big difference to your build.
Having consistent seating and a colour theme will also help. Check out an example from YouTuber hachiroku24, who made this small MOC build of a cantina based on a scene from The Mandalorian.
If you have any questions regarding the competition, feel free to comment below, message us via the Live Chat button on our site, or email us at info@bricknews.co and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Good luck!
