There are opportunities for you to win LEGO sets all year round, but only if you know the right places to look... and with LEGO seemingly becoming more expensive every year, you don't want to miss out on these competitions. Here's our guide on how to find LEGO competitions so you can maximise your chances of winning some free sets! Note that some sections apply specifically to Australia & New Zealand residents, while other tips apply internationally.

LEGO's Official Website

The LEGO Company's official website is the most common place for fans to look for LEGO competitions, and it makes sense. If you want to win LEGO sets, why not visit the website of the company that produces the sets? It's not a bad idea - but being the most common place to look, it also means it's the most competitive and hardest to win from. You're likely going up against tens of thousands of other entrants per month, spread across multiple countries - so while it's worth checking out, don't get your hopes up too high.

However, one big benefit to entering official competitions from LEGO is that they can include exclusive sets unavailable anywhere else, rare merchandise or even sets signed by famous celebrities!

Pros:

  • Often has rarer LEGO sets and merchandise available.

  • The LEGO Company hosts the most competitions to win LEGO products.

  • It's usually free to enter their competitions or costs a very small amount of Insider Points.

Cons:

  • Many of their competitions are only available in certain regions/countries.

  • So many people enter the competitions, your individual chance of winning is very low.

  • LEGO doesn't market these competitions much on their social media or emails, so if you miss the announcement you may not realise the competitions are even on.

LEGO Certified Stores (Australia / New Zealand)

Did you know physical LEGO stores in Australia aren't actually owned by LEGO? That's right, they belong to a third-party company (Alquemie LCS Pty Ltd), who operate the stores under a partnership with The LEGO Company. That means competitions hosted at LEGO stores in Australia are separate to those on LEGO's official website.

While many LEGO fans in Australia know that occasional competitions are hosted either at all physical stores or sometimes specific stores, most casual fans don't realise that the LEGO Certified Stores actually run a competition every single month for all new members. That's right - LEGO Certified Stores in Australia host a competition every month for new VIPs. If you sign up for a VIP account, you'll be put into a draw with other VIPs that signed up in the same month, and at the end of the month a lucky winner will score a huge LEGO prize pack! If you'd like more details on this competition, visit their competitions page here.

Additionally, LEGO Certified Stores in Australia and New Zealand run competitions that are sometimes store-specific, or national competitions open to both Australia and New Zealand. However, this means far less competition as LEGO fans from other countries can't participate, giving you much better odds that you may end up winning.

Pros:

  • Competitions are limited to entrants in Australia and/or New Zealand, limiting the entry pool compared to LEGO.com's global competitions.

  • There are free competitions available such as their monthly new-VIP draw.

  • Sometimes specific stores will host competitions separate from the other stores, boosting your odds of winning even further.

  • Competitions often include rare LEGO sets or exclusive merchandise unavailable anywhere else.

  • There are occasional offers where purchasing one or two LEGO sets may result in you receiving a free set.

Cons:

  • Competitions are limited to entrants in Australia and/or New Zealand, so if you're not from these countries you'll miss out.

  • The monthly draws being restricted to new VIPs means you can only enter once - and never again.

  • Most competitions and promotions require you to spend money on LEGO products.

LEGO Ideas Competitions

Yep - there's another LEGO website we haven't covered yet. The LEGO Ideas website is owned by the LEGO Company, and was set up so that fans can create their dream LEGO set for a chance it gets turned into a real set. If you create a submission and reach 10,000 likes, it may be selected to become a real LEGO set - and you'll get multiple copies of your set for free!

But in addition to the standard submission process, LEGO Ideas also hosts challenges, special competitions you can enter for the chance to win prizes. These competitions typically require you to create builds out of LEGO bricks, but you can win various prizes and there's less competition here compared to other official LEGO websites.

Pros:

  • Less competitors here than other LEGO websites.

  • Competitions are regularly hosted and often include numerous prizes.

  • Challenges are often a fun way to use your LEGO bricks and can help you get better at building.

  • Opportunity for your builds to become real LEGO sets.

Cons:

  • Some of these competitions allow you to use computer software to design the LEGO builds, and entrants who are professionals at using this software will often greatly outperform other entrants.

  • A larger time investment is required when entering these competitions, and it can be disappointing when you don't win.

  • Can sometimes take several months for winners to be selected and announced.

Brick News Competitions

You KNEW this was coming, but it's time for us to talk about our own website. At Brick News, we give away large LEGO sets every single month!

Typically our grand prizes are $800 or more in value, and sometimes as much as $1500 when we've given away the LEGO 75419 Star Wars: Ultimate Collector Series Death Star! Sometimes we also give away LEGO sets on our Instagram page, or allow our VIPs to compete with each other in the Build Competition Club on our website.

Of course, while we occasionally host free-to-enter competitions, our best competitions (primarily the Monthly Draws) are normally restricted to members of our VIP news subscription, which costs $5 per month. This is the lowest possible standard price we can offer, as anything less would require us to shut down - and even then, we still sometimes offer discounts.

Because we're a small business, it's also clear who is responsible for organising our draws and competitions - me (Frase)! Grand prize winners get either a phone call or email to congratulate them, as well as an opportunity to ask any questions they may have before the prize is shipped to them.

Pros:

  • Far less competitors than other websites - Brick News is a small business and has around 500 VIPs as of August 2026. The chance of winning a prize is usually a lot higher compared to entering LEGO's official competitions or well-known third party brand competitions such as retail store competitions.

  • Our competitions are easy to enter. Our website competitions require a simple login and typically the completion of a short form, which takes less than a minute.

  • Occasional free-to-enter competitions may be held both on our website or on our Instagram.

  • We allow entries from other countries as long as entrants agree to comply with Australian laws and our competition T's & C's.

  • Monthly Draws are limited to one entry per person, so everyone has a fair chance at winning our big prizes each month.

Cons:

  • Our $5 monthly subscription is required to enter our best competitions. Unfortunately we have to limit most competitions to our supporters, otherwise we wouldn't have the funding required to keep our website running.

  • Our limited budget means we can't run free-to-enter competitions as frequently as we'd like.

  • VIPs need to manually enter our competitions each month by visiting our website and completing the entry form - for legal reasons, we can't automatically enter our VIPs into each draw. We do notify our VIPs by email though when each draw goes live.

  • Because we're a small business, sometimes we have small promotions held only in Australia due to shipping constraints, which prevent us from sending certain sets overseas.

LEGO Product Survey

For decades, LEGO has offered prizes in exchange for providing feedback on their LEGO sets. Normally this is located either on the back of your LEGO set's instruction booklet, or one of the final pages.

I've seen many people question whether LEGO actually does reward users for completing this survey. While it's been a while since I've last received a set from completing one of these surveys myself, I am pleased to confirm I have got a free set on two separate occasions from completing the survey - with one of the free sets being the LEGO Star Wars Gungan Sub when I was about 13 years old.

While these surveys normally take a few minutes to fill out, it's well worth completing them whenever you finish building a LEGO set. As well as giving you a chance to win free LEGO sets, it also provides important feedback to the LEGO team to help with future LEGO sets.

Pros:

  • Relatively easy to fill out a survey for a chance to win a LEGO set.

  • Allows you to provide feedback to LEGO so that they can hopefully make better products in the future.

  • Can be done for multiple LEGO sets.

  • One prize winner is selected per 4000 survey entrants, which isn't too diluted.

Cons:

  • Requires you to have a recent LEGO set in your possession that still allows for you to complete the product feedback survey.

  • Typically costs money for you to obtain a set to participate in this survey.

  • Can be time consuming completing numerous surveys.

  • There are likely thousands of people completing these surveys that you are competing with.

These are all of our top suggestions for where to go or what to do to maximise your chances of winning LEGO sets! If you've won a LEGO set through one of the above methods, or a completely different method, I'd love to hear about it in the comments below. Now go enter some competitions, good luck!
