The Stud Desk - A LEGO Enthusiast's Solution To Building On The Couch

If you've ever sat down and started building with LEGO for over an hour, you know the pain of having to sit at a table when you'd much rather sit on a comfy couch or on the bed. That's why the new Stud Desk project over on Kickstarter has caught so much attention! Let's dive into what the Stud Desk is, the story behind it, and how you can help support the project.

The Stud Desk is a portable desk for building LEGO sets. Whether you want to build on the couch, on your bed or at a table, this desk is marketed as the perfect workstation for building your LEGO sets. In the middle of the desk is a groove lid, allowing you to place LEGO 32x32 baseplates down to build on - or you can flip it over and use the LEGO-compatible studs if you don't have your own baseplate.

On the left and right sides of the desk are six "Stud Tubs", which are separate containers you can separate your LEGO pieces into for a tidier building experience. Extra Stud Tubs can be purchased if you desire them for more storage. You can even remove the Stud Tubs already in the desk to free up even more space for storing your LEGO pieces.

At the rear end of the desk is an instruction holder, propping up your instruction booklet to make it easier to look back & forth between your build and the next page of the manual. If you're using digital instructions, you can use it to prop up your phone or tablet!

Now that we've covered some basic features of the Stud Desk, let's talk about its creator. Caleb Duffus from Melbourne, Australia, became engrossed in building LEGO along with his wife during the COVID-19 pandemic. One day, his wife picked up a wooden food sorting table and decided to use it to hold her LEGO set while sitting on the couch. Upon noticing this, Caleb opened Photoshop and began brainstorming ideas for a LEGO-compatible lap table.

Since then, Caleb has 3D-printed many iterations of the Stud Desk, and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund its production. Just one week into the campaign, the project has already been funded 55%. If you're interested in this project and would like to learn more or pre-order one by backing the Kickstarter project, click here to check it out.

We're excited to see this desk come to fruition, and we're sure many, many LEGO fans out there would love to get their hands on one of these desks too. Depending on your Kickstarter pledge, you can pre-order one, two, four or ten Stud Desks! Standard colours will include black and white, however if the project reaches a milestone of $200,000 USD it will also have blue and pink options available.
